Windows of Wonder

The intent of the artist is to highlight the work of Bryan MacMahon and specifically his short story, Windows of Wonder. In it the young schoolteacher begins to stir the imagination of her pupils in the telling of stories from Irish mythology. There are six stories mentioned in the piece. At the end of the story two Red Admiral butterflies are released and this an iconic moment in the story. This art piece captures the essential elements of the short story. The glass canopy consists of two Red Admiral butterflies and there are inscriptions etched into the underside of the glass from each of the six stories. The piece is placed over the bench which is facing the silicon bronze statue of the writer. The lettering on the glass is orientated such that the reader has to be facing the writer in order to read the text. The support column and the retaining shoes for the glass are in stainless steel making the whole structure maintenance free. The column is embedded in the ground and attached to a concrete foundation.
