Padraig Tarrant

Padraig Tarrant is a sculptor and shaper of metal based in New York City. Born in Ireland, Padraig was trained in the trade of metalwork and received his certification in Engineering Science and Metallurgy from Paddington College, London. His portfolio demonstrates his wide interests and skills with a variety of different materials. Tarrant seeks to fuse the urban and the natural. Padraig has exhibited his art internationally. In Listowel, County Kerry there is ample evidence of his memorialization of the town’s history and heroes. Commissioned to honor the convent and the nuns that served the town for 163 years he designed a piece that stands in the town square. The profile of a nun is cut from black granite and stands outside the church. In the town park his work can be found in the Garden of Europe. A piece of limestone cut to resemble the cover of a book with the profile of John B. Keane was unveiled at Listowel Writer’s Week in 2008. This likeness of the famous playwright stands as a celebration to all that he contributed to both his town, and to the literary world.  Previously, Tarrant’s designs have been displayed alongside the Brooklyn Bridge and outside the Whitney Museum.
