The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition’s Sculpture Show
Tarrant’s first body of work composed of steel structures. Late in the summer of 2003 one of these pieces was exhibited between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. ‘Divert’ is made of steel beams wrought together to form an access way that echoes the arches of Brooklyn Bridge.
Indication is a comment on how people see structural pieces as purely functional and how as a result of this their design ideas are limited. The purpose of this piece is to remind people that a highly functional piece can also be a highly decorative pieces.
Coquette
The shape of this design resembles a wave. It represents the geometry of waves and the geometry ofshapes. A contrast can be made between the rigid shape of the metal and the fluidity of a wave.
Divert
Divert is wrought from steel beams welded together to form an access way that echoes the Brooklyn Bridge’s arches nearby.
